Two Materials, Many Expressions

In lighting design, the combination of different materials can create a distinct visual experience.

Natural alabaster features naturally formed veining and a soft translucency, with subtle variations that make each piece unique. Glass, by contrast, brings clarity and lightness, adding another layer to the overall design.

When these two materials come together in a single fixture, neither takes away from the other. Instead, the transparency of glass creates a natural contrast with the texture of alabaster, adding depth to the relationship between material, light, and form.

Different Fixtures, Different Expressions

At NHB Lighting, natural alabaster and glass are used across different types of lighting. From wall lights and single pendants to multi-light chandeliers, the same material combination takes on a different character depending on the form and setting.

In wall lights, the design is more compact and closely connected to the surrounding space. They can be used beside a bed, along a hallway, or in a living room, providing functional lighting while adding a subtle decorative detail to the wall.

With a single pendant, the design moves away from the wall and into the space. Its simple form works equally well on its own or when arranged in multiples, depending on the setting, making it a flexible choice for dining tables, kitchen islands, bedside areas, and more.

When individual pendants are brought together in a multi-light chandelier, the focus shifts from the individual fixture to the overall composition. By varying the number, height, and arrangement of the pendants, the design creates greater depth and rhythm, making it well suited to staircases, double-height living spaces, lobbies, and other larger interiors.
